Jennifer Burgess Thompson

As in any industry we are bound by a sort of kinship with others like us. As a photographer we feel such a strong connection with artists like ourselves, near and far. We may meet at a conference or workshop and become life long friends. We may never meet, but find more of a connection than with a nearby acquaintance. While I’ve never met Jennifer Burgess Thompson, a photographer, she’s a little like family to me. One thing I’ve learned is that the photography industry has a bond, for there are truly no words.

In place of my tgif post today, I’m honoring Jen. She was diagnosed last August with aggressive ovarian cancer at age 36. The day after she got the news, she gathered up her two young sons, some friends and her husband and drove to Mt. Bachelor and made a movie.

Jen passed away this morning and I’m pretty darn sure if the photography industry could jump on a plane to be together in memory of her, they would. Rest in peace, sweet Jen. You were and always will be an inspiration to all.
