Silverbox is honored to design for Humane Pennsylvania. They keep us on our toes and always have us guessing what's next. Seriously some of the most awesome people to work with on a weekly basis. They do wonderful things for the animals. Here's an auction they recently held earlier in the year. Now, what designer doesn't like working with Bauhaus and a font called Shagadelic? Kudos to Adrienne Trafford for her extraordinary illustrations! And high fives to the entire staff at Humane Pennsylvania for reaching a combined live outcome rate of over 90% for dogs, small animals and exotics and cats.
“Meme” as she nicknamed herself, travelled from Illinois for her senior portraits with Silverbox. Ok, she was really visiting relatives here in Pennsylvania. I still think she wins for “senior that travelled the longest distance.” Meme loves to read and her favorite books are "Animal Farm" by George Orwell, "Between Shades of Gray" by Ruta Sepetys, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare, and "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. We focused the photo shoot on her love of reading. Please enjoy the photos of our beautiful bookworm.

This beauty came down from Tamaqua for her senior portraits. Her Mom went to school with Susan. Before the shoot we had a chat on the phone to discuss outfits, accessories and hair & makeup. We also discussed the look she was going for with her session and how she wanted to be photographed. Melanie wanted some outdoor nature looks and an edgy look. We started at the Creamery studio for the images on the palettes as well as the images in the grass. I love what we can create without having to leave the studio. BUT…then we went out on location for some of her edgier images. I love the look of the lace and sequin dress against the dilapidated building and how she just kicked back on the steps. We had a really good time getting to know each other and laughing. Melanie is one of the happiest girl’s I’ve ever met!
P.S. If you should run into Melanie and she is hungry – she loves pretzels!

Why the name SidePorch? When I was a little girl I used to sit with my grandfather and create images out of doodles. I’d draw a squiggle on a page and hand it to him and he’d hand me his squiggle in return. We’d spend about ten minutes creating something from each others little doodle, then exchange to see each other’s masterpiece. This would go on for the entire afternoon on the “Side Porch.” I remember as clear as day, how he’d look up at me after I handed him my paper. There didn’t have to be any words, as his eyes were filled with amazement each and every time. He always said that someday I’d astonish the world with my art. While I realize it’s a grandfather’s job to make his granddaughter feel like a rock star, he left me with such strength to be passionate in what I do. He always said, “Whatever it takes.”
My grandfather passed away, a month before I officially opened Silverbox.
As I hand-drew my first course map, it instantly reminded me of the doodles with my Grandfather on the side porch, hence our name. The SidePorch Collection was built on connection that runs deep. It’s about starting what you finish. Following though. Doing “Whatever it Takes.”
That’s our story. What’s yours?
We welcome you to come and sit for a while on our SidePorch. (We will be updating our cart with new art weekly, so feel free to stop back from time to time.)
Here's hoping your 4th of July was as magical as ours. Happy Monday!
"Matt, have a seat on the ledge, sit back and put your feet up on the palettes and nail this shot!" Matt does just that! This was my favorite image from this senior photo shoot.
